Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs Wants to Restore South Sulawesi to a Cooperative Province

Makassar (MidLand) – Deputy for Cooperatives at the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs, Ahmad Zabadi, admitted that he wants to return South Sulawesi to a cooperative province.

Ahmad Zabadi, in a statement received in Makassar on Sunday, expressed his appreciation that in the history of participation in the commemoration of the National Cooperation Day (Harkopnas) at the provincial level, the most lively was in South Sulawesi.

“Congratulations on the commemoration of Harkopnas in South Sulawesi. This shows the great care and commitment to cooperatives in South Sulawesi. It is something to be proud of and I hope this will be an impetus to bring South Sulawesi back to a cooperative province,” he said.

He revealed that South Sulawesi has long been designated as a cooperative province. In the past, South Sulawesi has shown significant cooperative activity.

“Let’s revive South Sulawesi as a cooperative province in Indonesia,” he stressed at the inauguration of Harkopnas in Selayar.

According to Ahmad Zabadi, there is no proper platform to accelerate the growth of MSMEs other than cooperatives. Currently, the economic actors are dominated by MSMEs, 90% of which are micro-enterprises with constraints. Therefore, cooperatives are needed to develop the business they manage.

“To increase economic scale and enable the development of SMEs, regional governments must prioritize the development of cooperatives. The strength of cooperatives lies in the number of members, not in capital,” he stressed.

Ahmad Zabadi also said that cooperatives as business entities must meet economies of scale, with a large number of members. South Sulawesi has huge potential in the agriculture and fisheries sectors, which will be even greater if supported by large cooperatives.

It is known that the highlight of the South Sulawesi province-wide Harkopnas commemoration event, which was held at the youth camp, Benteng City, Selayar Islands Regency, on Saturday evening (14/9) was lively.

In addition to the Deputy for Cooperatives at the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs, Ahmad Zabadi, the event was also attended by the acting governor of South Sulawesi Zudan Arif Fakhrulloh, chairman of the Indonesian Cooperative Council (Dekopin) represented by Agung Sujatmoko, chairman of Dekopin for South Asrullah of Sulawesi province, as well as regents and mayors from all over South Sulawesi.
