Minister of Communications and Information: Indonesia needs additional 1,300 MHz spectrum until 2026
Jakarta (MidLand) – Minister of Communications and Information (Menkominfo) Budi Arie Setiadi said that Indonesia needs additional radio frequency spectrum of 1,300 MHz until 2026, and the government is making several efforts to meet this need.
Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie, after opening the “10th Asia-Pacific Spectrum Management Conference 2024” in Jakarta on Tuesday, underlined the importance of convergence in spectrum usage, considering that different technologies are available such as satellite, terrestrial and WiFi.
“When it comes to necessity, we need another 1,300 MHz. “Later we will continue to try because of the convergence, there is satellite, terrestrial, WiFi technology,” Communications and Information Minister Budi Arie said.

Indonesia has unique demographic and geographic conditions with an archipelago stretching from Sabang to Merauke and from Miangas to Rote Island, making convergence the main key. According to Communications and Information Minister Budi Arie, Indonesia cannot apply a single technology to meet radio frequency spectrum needs across the region.
Convergence is considered the right solution because the use of technology can be adapted to geographical conditions. For example, it is considered more appropriate for the eastern Indonesia region to use satellite telecommunications technology, while other regions can use terrestrial technology.
The government also plans to hold an auction for 700 MHz and 26 GHz spectrum around May or June, with the hope of providing maximum benefits to the country and providing incentives to mobile operators.
Regarding frequency spectrum pricing, the Ministry of Communications and Information said that it is still being defined and discussed with relevant ministries and industries, including the Ministry of Finance and the Financial Supervision Agency and Development (BPKP).
Minister Budi also assessed that the “10th Asia Pacific Spectrum Management Conference 2024” is important for society, economic and social sectors, especially for a digital Indonesia of the future.
“The 10th Asia Pacific Spectrum Management Conference 2024” took place in Jakarta from 23 to 24 April 2024.
