Minister of Communication and Information meets Google to eradicate online gambling using artificial intelligence

Jakarta (MidLand) – Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi met with Google representatives to discuss efforts to eradicate online gambling content using artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

“That’s right, I met Google. Processing online gambling content reports can be much faster with the help of artificial intelligence,” Budi Arie said when contacted by MidLand on Wednesday.

Budi said that in the meeting on Tuesday (4/6), the use of artificial intelligence to speed up the processing of reports relating to online gambling content was discussed.

It assessed that with the application of AI technology, the process of identifying and managing online gambling content can be carried out more quickly and accurately than the currently used method, that is, relying on a combination of human and machine power .

Budi Arie has called on the tech giant to immediately apply artificial intelligence technology in a bid to eradicate online gambling in the digital space.

“I have asked for this technology to be implemented immediately. Of course, ensuring the cybersecurity and good governance aspects,” he said.

Budi Arie did not say when Google will implement this method. Currently, he said, the method is still in the testing phase.

“I’m just trying again,” he concluded.

Previously, Budi Arie announced his plans to meet with representatives of tech giant Google to discuss the issue of eradicating online gambling in Indonesia.

According to Budi Arie, the meeting will discuss Google’s commitment to using its technology, especially artificial intelligence, to facilitate the eradication of online gambling in the digital space.

“So Google, as a form of participation in government programs, including mainly the eradication of online gambling, helps with its AI technology,” Budi said in Jakarta, Monday (3/6).

The use of AI to eradicate online gambling in Indonesia is actually in line with the focus of Google, which has developed numerous innovations in its AI-powered services over the past year.

Budi therefore believes that similar initiatives could also be implemented by Google in Indonesia, which fights the practice of online gambling because it is considered harmful to public morality.

Over the past year, the government has seriously combated online gambling practices in the digital space.

Also at the end of May 2024, President Joko Widodo reconfirmed the national task force to eradicate online gambling.
