Minister AHY said that spatial planning must be managed and controlled
We must take care of what is there, land use planning must be managed and controlled as best as possible. If something is not in accordance with the intended purpose, it must be regulated.
Jakarta (MidLand) – Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning and head of the National Land Agency (ATR/BPN), Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), said that spatial planning must be managed and controlled according to his designation.
According to AHY, Indonesia will face a series of challenges related to land and spatial planning issues if it is not managed in the best possible way from now on.
“We need to take care of what is there, spatial planning must be managed and controlled as best as possible. If something is not in accordance with its intended purpose, it must be put in order,” AHY said in Jakarta on Thursday.
Management and control of space, AHY said, are closely related to food security issues. The reason is that Indonesia’s population continues to increase, making it continuously open up new lands.
In the end, the land that should have remained rice paddies was transformed into buildings instead. According to AHY, such things must be avoided in the management and control of land use planning.
“Spatial planning of regions across Indonesia must be strictly in accordance with their intended use, which ones should remain as rice fields, which ones should not. Remember, our rice fields are also decreasing in area, even though we still need food,” he said.
Land management and control also work to prevent natural disasters in places that should not be residential areas.
Therefore, the ATR/BPN Ministry will continue to monitor buildings in the prohibited areas.
AHY said that the prohibited zoning for building construction is the result of scientific research and data, and then asked the public to follow the applicable regulations.
“We need to put this situation in order, but above all I obviously appeal to the activists to continue to carry out the community awareness action, so that they really understand because if we determine the zoning not haphazardly, this can avoid disaster for all of us,” AHY said.
