Meulaboh Immigration transports 11 Bangladeshi citizens from refugee camps in North Sumatra

“The transfer of 11 Bangladeshi nationals also follows a letter from UNHCR, number 24/INSJA/30520 dated 2 May 2024, regarding the notification of 12 Bangladeshi nationals in Western Aceh,” said the acting head of Non-TPI class II Meulaboh immigration. , Jamaluddin told MidLand, Thursday.

There are also 12 Bangladeshi citizens registered from the temporary Rohingya refugee camp, including Muhammad Halaluddin (22 years old), Husen Tamzid (19 years old), Tohid (24 years old), Zahed (20 years old), Musaddeq (42 years old), Kursyid Alom ( 25 years old).

Then Abdul Kalam (29 years old), Tobur (24 years old), Dostokir (27 years old), Salim (34 years old), Yunus (46 years old), Abdul Gafur or Josim Uddin (38 years old).

From the 12 records presented by UNHCR, one of the 11 Bangladeshi nationals is believed to have escaped from the temporary refugee camp located at the West Aceh Regent’s Office Complex in Meulaboh.

Jamaluddin said the 11 foreign nationals had left for Medan city in North Sumatra province since Thursday afternoon, accompanied by staff from the Meulaboh Class II Non-TPI Immigration Bureau.

“The 11 nationals believed to be from Bangladesh were transported using three minibuses from Meulaboh, Western Aceh, to Medan,” Jamaluddin added.

He said it was known that there were 12 citizens suspected to be from Bangladesh after the UNCHR carried out verification from 23 to 30 April 2024 and 12 were found to be Bangladeshi citizens and not citizens of Rohingya ethnicity.

Subsequently the Immigration Bureau Authority of Meulaboh, Aceh, reported the findings to the leadership of Banda Aceh and the Irwasdakim of Jakarta, so that the report was followed up and the 12 foreign nationals were removed from the temporary refugee camp in Aceh western.

Jamaluddin said if the 11 residents believed to be from Bangladesh were not immediately relocated to another location from western Aceh, it was feared that the foreign residents would disappear or flee the temporary refugee camp in western Aceh.

Subsequently, upon arrival at the Belawan immigration detention center in Medan city, North Sumatra province, the 11 residents suspected of being from Bangladesh will be re-registered by the Bangladeshi consulate, before being deported to their home country. origin, Jamaluddin said.
