Meta removal of online gambling content on the platform: Okezone techno

JAKARTA – Mark Zuckerberg’s tech giant Meta is finally active in suppressing online gambling content.

Previously, the Ministry of Communications and Information (Kominfo) had issued a strong warning to the tech giant due to the proliferation of online gambling content on its platform.

According to the Minister of Communication and Information, Budi Arie, Meta has shown serious commitment to jointly eradicate online gambling which has become a social disease. Millions of gambling content and hundreds of thousands of gambling advertisements are said to have been removed from numerous Meta social media platforms.

“Based on the report I received, as of October 11, 2023, Meta has followed up on the warning, removing more than 1.65 million pieces of gambling content, as well as more than 450,000 gambling ads that take are targeting users in Indonesia and violate Meta policies,” the Minister of Communication and Information explained on Friday (10/20/2023).

“Meta’s quick steps to follow up on Kominfo’s strong warning show the serious commitment of all parties. Through this commitment, our content removal efforts can complement the platform’s efforts, so that gaming management online gambling can happen in a much more optimal way,” he continued.

Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie added that managing online gambling content requires serious commitment from all parties and called on all parties to increase their joint efforts to eradicate the online gambling.

“I will not hesitate to give a warning or even impose heavy sanctions on platforms that are still stubborn and unserious in managing online gambling content,” he said.

Previously, the Minister of Communication and Information sent a letter with number B703/M.KOM INFO/ Al.05.02/10/2023 regarding orders for the management of online gambling content and activities and /o Slots Gambling by PSE to Meta Representatives in Indonesia on October 2, 2023.

In this warning, the Minister of Communication and Information requested that, within 1 x 24 hours, Meta immediately improves its content and advertising management with online gambling content on the platforms it operates. The letter was delivered because various types of online gambling content were still found on the Meta platform.
