Meta opens up the Meta Quest headset operating system to third-party companies

Jakarta (MidLand) – Meta announced that it has opened up the Meta Quest headset operating system to third-party companies, allowing them to make their own headphones using the Quest operating system.

According to a report from Engadget, Monday (4/22), Quest OS now has a new brand, namely Meta Horizon OS, and it seems that two companies are interested in using this operating system.

The first is ASUS through the Republic of Gamers (ROG) brand which is currently developing a headset game last. Then there’s Lenovo which is developing devices for productivity, learning and entertainment.

“Building on our past successful partnerships, Lenovo is combining Meta Horizon OS with our leadership and innovation in personal computing to accelerate the adoption of new user scenarios in mixed reality (mixed reality) such as virtual screens, remote presence, content consumption and immersive learning,” said Yuanqing Yang, CEO of Lenovo.

Furthermore, Meta also announced that they are working on a limited edition Quest headset inspired by Xbox devices.

As a step toward enriching content in the Horizon ecosystem, software developed through the Quest App Lab will be available in the Horizon Store. Meta also called on Google to bring the Google Play 2D app store to Meta Horizon OS.

Meta is also developing a new spatial framework that allows mobile app developers to build applications mixed reality.
