MAKI encourages the immediate formation of the National Anti-Corruption Police Corps
Firli is a three star, Polda is a two star. Well, that’s one of the obstacles for this case to drag on, there’s actually the psychological burden
Jakarta (MidLand) – The Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI) is pushing for the immediate formation of the National Corruption Eradication Police Corps (Kortas Tipikor) under the direct control of the national police chief, so that corruption cases are quickly resolved, as for example as in the case of the former president of the Commission for the Eradication of Corruption Firli Bahuri.
MAKI conveyed this encouragement through a preliminary suit filed Friday in the South Jakarta District Court.
MAKI coordinator Boyamin Saiman said the long handling of the Firli Bahuri case without detention prompted his party to file a preliminary lawsuit, one of the requested lawsuits was the formation of the National Police Corruption Corps.
“I used the trigger not to detain Firli to also trigger the formation of the Corruption Eradication Corps at the National Police Headquarters,” he said.
According to Boyamin, the failure to detain Firli was hampered by the psychological burden due to the fact that the Polda Metro Jaya leader who handled the case had a lower rank than the suspect, who is a retired Polri officer with the rank of general at three stars (general commissioner). .
Since the ABRI era, he said, no one was authorized to carry out an inspection (investigation) of a lower rank than the person under investigation.
“Firli is a three star, Polda is a two star. Well, this is one of the obstacles for this case to drag on, in reality there is the psychological weight,” he said.
Therefore, Boyamin continued, in addition to suing the regional police chief, the regional police chief and Kajati for closing the case due to the failure to detain Firli Bahuri, in his MAKI suit he also asked the district court judge of South Jakarta to immediately order the formation of the National Police Corruption Corps under the control of the National Police Chief.
According to him, with the formation of the Corruption Corps directly under the head of the national police, its leader has the rank of two-star general, just like the Traffic Corps. The directorate is no longer held by a one-star general.
“So at the same time, I’m using the opportunity to have Corruption Crime Corps so that this is at least a two-star general. This two-star can ask for help from a BKO above another three-star level to help, so that later he can properly examine Firli,” Boyamin said.
Previously, National Police Chief General Pol Listyo Sigit Prabowo said during the 2024 National Police meeting in Jakarta on Wednesday (29/2/2024) that the dossier for the formation of the National Police Anti-Corruption Corps had been presented to President Joko Widodo.
“Regarding the development of the Kortas Corruption Eradication Committee, this has now reached the president’s desk,” Sigit said.
