Lebak farmers profit from wet grain price of IDR 7,000 per kilogram

Rangkasbitung (MidLand) –

A number of farmers in Lebak Regency, Banten, made a profit because the price of harvested wet grain was collected by pickers or middlemen at IDR 7,000/kilogram, thus increasing the family’s economic income.

“We guarantee that the rice harvest in May 2024 will be relatively good, because it is not attacked by pests and diseases, and the price of wet grain is quite good, reaching IDR 7,000/kilogram,” said the president of the Rangkasbitung Central Block Farmers Group . , Lebak Regency Ahmad (63) in Rangkasbitung, Lebak, Friday .

Rice harvesting in Rangkasbitung Central Block, Lebak Regency, covers an area of 50 hectares with an average productivity of 6 tons of wet grain/hectare.

Currently, the price of harvested wet grain is collected by intermediaries at IDR 7,000/kilogram and if 6 tons of wet grain is calculated, the farmer’s income is IDR 42 million/hectare.

From the income of Rs 42 million, farmers can get a net profit of Rs 27 million, after deducting costs of wages, pesticides, tractors and fertilizers of Rs 15 million/hectare.

“Profits from farming for four months can increase the family’s economic income,” Ahmad said.

Similarly, Sumarna (55), a farmer in Kalanganyar District, Lebak Regency, admitted that he now has a relatively good rice crop because the water supply is adequate due to heavy rainfall.

Its rice yield was 1 hectare from planting to mid-February 2024 and average productivity was 6 tonnes of wet grain.

In fact, he felt happy and relieved after the price of wet or dry harvested grain was reduced by harvesters to IDR 7,000/kilogram.

Most collectors are rice mill owners and visit the rice fields where they are harvesting.

“If you sell 6 tonnes of wet grain with a price of Rs 7,000, you can generate an income of Rs 42 million and get a profit of around Rs 27 million after deducting production costs of Rs 15 million,” he said . Sumarna.

Meanwhile, the head of the production division of the agricultural service of Lebak regency, Deni Iskandar, said that the rice harvest in this area from February to May 2024 is still ongoing, because it is supported by the availability of rainwater and also by the assistance of pumps so that farmers can carry out planting activities.

So far, farmers’ economic income has been relatively good after the price of wet grain was IDR 7,000/kilogram compared to the previous IDR 5,000/kilogram.

The increase in the price of wet grain is due to the fact that the price of rice in the market is quite high, reaching more than IDR 12,500/kilogram.

The farmers’ income from the harvest is quite encouraging, and the economic development of the village community is also relatively good.

Farmers in various areas of Lebak Regency are currently making moves to speed up planting.

“We estimate that the May 2024 harvest will be around 8,000 hectares and will be able to improve farmers’ welfare,” he said.
