Lampung Governor: Extension workers must build technology-based agriculture

The use of technology in agriculture can contribute to forming a more efficient agricultural system, with high productivity and guaranteed markets

Bandarlampung (MidLand) – Lampung Governor Arinal Djunaidi has asked agricultural trainers in his area to develop technology-based agriculture.

“Extension workers are the first guard in building a people’s economy. And it is hoped that extension workers can encourage farmers, farmer groups and farmer group associations (gapoktan) to join the farmer’s card that uses technology,” Arinal Djunaidi said in his statement in Bandarlampung on Wednesday.

“I really hope that we will be able to achieve the set goals and objectives. In an effort to create synergies, build an agriculture that can develop further and be able to adapt to change. This depends on the ability of extension workers who are able to understand technology-based principles or digital skills,” he said.

According to him, the use of technology in agriculture can help create a more efficient agricultural system, with high productivity and market guarantees.

“In the era of industrial revolution 4.0, Lampung Province has taken a step forward by developing farmers’ cards which aim to increase farmers’ income and welfare because they can be more efficient and minimize transaction costs to provide inputs of production, marketing and distribution of agricultural products,” he said.

Then help with cultivation, the availability of agricultural technologies, access to capital, risk management of agricultural companies through insurance and obtaining scholarships for farmers’ children.

“Instructors must also improve the Pokdakan institution, the fishermen’s KUB, so that it becomes a strong, dynamic and independent institution. Then improve technical services in the breeding sector, including artificial insemination (AI), reproductive services and animal health, as well as using information technologies to accelerate the dissemination of timely information to farmers,” he added.

He continued that extension workers must also be able to strengthen agricultural institutions, farmer groups and GAPoktan, so that the institutional capacity of farmers can increase to become an agricultural economic institution (KEP) and then become a society of farmers, so that an economic and efficient system will be created on a corporate scale.

“Then extension officers must be able to promote the entrepreneurial spirit of farmers and businessmen. Then optimize the tasks, functions and role of agricultural training centers as centers for agricultural development at sub-district level , so that agricultural training centers become data and information centers for farmers,” he added.
