KKP distributes 10,000 canned fish in Yogyakarta ahead of Ramadhan
We will deliver 4,000 canned fish to students to welcome the holy month of Ramadan in the Year of Tuna 2024
Jakarta (MidLand) – The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has distributed 10,000 canned fish in Yogyakarta, which is also part of the Movement to Promote Fish Consumption (Gemarikan) to increase the community’s protein needs.
“We are delivering over 4,000 canned fish to students to welcome the holy month of Ramadan in the Tuna Year 2024,” Director General of Strengthening the Competitiveness of Maritime Products and Fisheries (PDSPKP) KKP Budi Sulistiyo said on Sunday at Jakarta.
The canned seafood products were tuna and sardines which were distributed to students of Krapyak Islamic College, Jogokaryan Mosque and Pathok Negoro Plosokuning Mosque, Yogyakarta.
In addition to the students, 3,000 products were distributed to the Jogokaryan Mosque and the rest to the Pathok Negoro Plosokuning Mosque. Budi said the two mosques regularly distribute Ramadan takjil to local residents.
Through the distribution of the fish it is hoped that it will also become an educational space about tuna for the community.
Furthermore, he continued, Indonesia is the world’s largest producer of tuna (Thunnus, True Tuna).
Based on its data, in 2017 tuna production reached 229,481 tonnes, increasing to 281,565 tonnes in 2018, then in 2019 tuna production rose to 296,417 tonnes, and 323,477 tonnes in 2020 and 343,393 tonnes in 2021.
Budi said tuna can be made into various snacks, including grated tuna, tuna rendang, canned tuna, tuna steak, tuna pizza, sashimi and others.
