“Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” had sales of US$56 million
Jakarta (MidLand) – “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” managed to reach its domestic opening revenue target of $52-56 million, including Friday’s broadcast of $22.2 million.
The Hollywood Reporter reported on Saturday (11/5) that the Planet of the Apes franchise has always been a big player overseas and that the latest series opened worldwide to coincide with its North American launch.
The film is targeting an $80 million international release.
“Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” managed to live up to expectations, thanks to its large audience of young and old, as well as an ethnically diverse audience. The film received a B CinemaScore from audiences despite receiving rave reviews from critics

Insiders close to the film didn’t care much about the CinemaScore, as 85% of moviegoers gave it an A or B grade. This suggests that a vocal minority brought the overall score down by giving it a C or lower.
The film, which cost $160 million to make, is the fourth title in a reboot series that began with 2011’s James Franco-Andy Serkis-starrer “Rise of the Planet of the Apes,” which debuted with 54, 3 million dollars domestically.
Franchise fatigue is always a concern, but “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” falls no short of the $56.3 million domestic opening of its series finale, 2017’s “War for the Planet of the Apes.”
Owen Teague, Freya Allan, Kevin Durand and William H. Macy star in the new film. Set 300 years after the events of 2017’s “War for the Planet of the Apes,” this film from director Wes Ball follows a group of young apes who question the authoritarian rule of the apes who replaced Caesar.
During their journey, the apes bonded with young humans.
The 20th Century and Disney film is the second film of the summer 2024 season following Universal’s “The Fall Guy,” which had Hollywood on edge after opening with a disappointing $27.7 million in the period from 5 to May 7th.
Tracking suggests the action comedy, starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, will at least be between $32 and $35 million, which is a sober number.
