Kemendikbudristek: Internships and independent studies are students’ golden tickets
TIME.CO, Jakarta – Head of the Certified Independent Study and Internship Program (MSIB) of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology or Ministry of Education and Culture Wachyu Hari Haji said internships and independent study programs could provide students with a golden ticket into the world of work.
“Through this certified internship and independent study program, students can get a golden ticket, many were immediately accepted into internship companies with salaries above the regional minimum wage (UMR) after graduation,” Wachyu said at Kemendikbudristek office, Jakarta, Wednesday, September 20, 2023.
Currently, the Ministry of Education and Culture is managing the MSIB program for the fifth time. This program, which is part of the independent campus, opened 51 thousand vacancies, with the number of applicants reaching 98 thousand students.
“After going through a fairly long selection process, 36,000 were accepted into the company, so this is very competitive,” he said.
Wachyu explained that the MSIB program this time accepted students from all universities in Indonesia and he had received permission from the university and parents to take part in the program for one semester.
“Why do you have to get permission? “Since students will study for a full semester (6 months) and will not go to university, the learning outcomes during this internship will later be converted into 20 semester credit units (SKS), so they must obtain permission from the program study,” he explained. she said.
In addition to program authorization, students are also required to obtain parental authorization in the form of a disclaimer, as students undertaking the MSIB program may subsequently be assigned away from their place of residence.
Another main requirement for students who will register for this program is that they have attended at least the 4th semester for those pursuing undergraduate studies (S1) and the 3rd semester for those pursuing a diploma (D3).

He also explained the process of the MSIB program until students were declared acceptable as interns at a company.
“The process is this, the company first registers with the Ministry of Education and Culture to provide internship places, from there we will select, we ask the company first, what does the program for one semester consist of? “Then we also confirm what activities the students will carry out in the company,” he said.
“Don’t let the students’ activities be just manual work or photocopying, so it must be clear what the company will aim for with the presence of these students,” he added.
According to him, this MSIB program, in addition to providing benefits to students in the form of work experience and relationships, can also provide benefits to companies because it will increase the value of production.
“Thanks to the internship program, companies no longer need to conduct employee training or training, they can immediately evaluate what the student’s work pattern will be like for six months,” he explained.
The Ministry of Education and Culture also provides living expenses assistance of IDR 2.8 million per month to students who declare they have passed the MSIB program, which has previously been reviewed by the Ministry of Finance.
“We transfer this cost of living subsidy twice every semester, so not every month, because an administrative process needs to take place, starting from data control up to accounting. student,” Wachyu said.
