Katulampa Dam in Bogor is on alert 2 for flooding in Jakarta

Bogor City (MidLand) – The Katulampa Dam guard post, Bogor City, West Java, recorded an increase in the water level (TMA) of the Ciliwung River due to near-heavy rainfall, leading to flood alert 2 in Jakarta on Wednesday (11/29) evening.

The head of the Bogor Katulampa dam guard post, Andi Sudirman, when confirmed on Wednesday evening, said the water level started to rise around 7.30pm WIB to alert 2 and is now starting to descend again until you reach alert 4 for Jakarta floods.

“Heavy rain fell on Puncak Bogor area, also other areas of Bogor. It was so heavy that we had to put alert 2 here. Usually it will increase the flow of water at the next lock towards Jakarta,” he said .

Andi said heavy rain fell uniformly over Bogor area starting from 16:00 WIB, currently at 23:00 WIB is still ongoing with light intensity.

Based on data from Katulampa Lock, the Ciliwung water level (TMA) started to rise by 130 centimeters at 19:30 WIB or alert status 3 and at 20:10 WIB rose again by 160 centimeters or in an alert position 2.

After 30 minutes, the TMA at Katulampa dropped by 130 centimeters to alarm 3 at 21.00 WIB and at 22.00 the TMA was at 80 centimeters or alarm 4. It has now been recorded that at 22.55 WIB has increased again to alarm 3 reaching 250 centimetres.

Meanwhile, several gates at 10pm recorded an increase of Depok gate by 230 centimeters (Advisory 3), Manggarai gate by 610 centimeters (Advisory 4) and Karet gate by 250 centimeters (Advisory 4).

Katulampa Dam manager Andi Sudirman said the increase in the flow of the Ciliwung River was quite drastic in a matter of tens of minutes.

According to him, on Wednesday afternoon, the TMA of Ciliwung at Katulampa Bend was still at a normal TMA of 50cm.

Andi estimates that Ciliwung’s TMA will increase further, considering that rainfall is still high upstream from Ciliwung in Puncak, Cisarua.

“It is estimated that in 10 to 12 hours, the Ciliwung flow will arrive downstream of Jakarta and its surroundings,” Andi said.
