Jokowi asks campuses to open green economy and pollution departments, here are 7 universities that already have them
TIME.CO, Jakarta – President Joko Widodo alias Jokowi was present to give a speech at the inauguration of the XIII National Unity Congress (Mahasabha) Student Hindu Dharma Indonesia (KMHDI) in 2023, a University Tadulako (Untad), Palu, Central Sulawesi, Wednesday, August 30, 2023. In his speech, Jokowi hoped that KMHDI would prepare to study the science related to green economic transformation.
“Learn about it carbon trading, carbon market, climate entrepreneurship, waste recycling AND battery technology,” To say Jokowi in a video uploaded to the Indonesian Cabinet Secretariat (Setkab) YouTube channel.
Jokowi also called on Indonesian universities to dare to establish specializations related to green economy, including environmental pollution control pollution. “This should be linked to this (green economy), colleges, universities, must also have the courage to face the creation of departments, the creation of faculties, the rector. Because this world has changed. So if there is still a business faculty, an engineering faculty, what other faculties, the socio-political one, the world is changing very quickly. So, all of us must have innovation and the desire to embrace these changes,” Jokowi said.
So where are the campuses with pollution-related specializations? Here is the list.
1.Griffith University
Griffith University offers a Master’s undergraduate training program in Environmental Engineering and Pollution Control. The specialization in the campus located in Queensland, Brisbane, Australia was taken in a year and a half at a cost of approximately 40,000 Australian dollars or approximately 390.4 million rupees (exchange rate of 9,760 rupees) per year.
Students in Griffith University’s masters in environmental engineering and pollution control will gain in-depth knowledge of solid and hazardous waste management, wastewater treatment, air quality monitoring and control for new and renewable energy ( EBT).
2. University of Southampton
The University of Southampton also offers a master’s program in the environmental field, namely environmental pollution control. Students who study for a year and graduate in that specialization will receive a Master of Science (MSc).
The campus, located in the city of Southampton, England, offers training in the field of air, water and waste pollution management. Students are given the opportunity to explore the scientific basis and practical approaches to environmental pollution control.
3. University of Aberdeen
The University of Aberdeen has a master’s training program specializing in pollution and environmental remediation. This major is very suitable for prospective students who wish to gain in-depth knowledge of environmental science, pollution and cleanup issues.

The University of Reading developed the MSc in Environmental Pollution which was attended for one year. This major is suitable for prospective students who wish to pursue a career in environmental consulting, contaminated land and waste management.
5. University of Portsmouth
The Master of Environmental Geology and Land Contamination is a specialist in pollution at the University of Portsmouth. In the 12-month higher education program, students will learn how to investigate and understand contaminated sites, including site and geotechnical investigations.
6. De Anza College
De Anza College offers an Environmental Resource Management and Pollution Prevention curriculum that studies environmental resource management and pollution prevention. Students who report graduating from this major will have an Associate of Arts (AA) degree.
7. Sam Houston State University
In addition to the postgraduate level, there are campuses around the world that offer undergraduate programs with a pollution major, one of which is Sam Houston State University. Pollution management learning is included in the Department of Environmental Science.
