JAKARTA – The Minister of Communication and Information (Kominfo), Budi Arie Setiadi, has asked Meta to clean up online gambling content on its platform.

“I convey orders and a strong warning to Meta to immediately clean up all types of content that supports, facilitates and/or promotes online gambling or slots gambling activities on all Meta platforms within 1 x 24 hours “, said the Minister of Justice. Communication and Information, Budi, recently. .

“If Meta fails to follow up on this warning optimally, we will forward the matter to the APH for strict follow-up, in accordance with the laws and regulations in force in the Indonesian jurisdiction,” it further said.

The same Minister of Communication and Information had previously sent a letter with the number B703/M.KOM INFO/ Al.05.02/10/2023 regarding orders for the management of online gambling content and activities and/ or Slots Gambling by PSE to Meta Representatives in Indonesia dated October 2, 2023.

However, according to the Minister of Communication and Information, Budi, until now there are still many types of online gambling content present on this platform.

Minister Budi stated that he would forward this management to the police if it had not been followed optimally.

According to him, all forms of default or negligence in not fulfilling obligations related to the management of online gambling will be subject to sanctions in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

In accordance with the provisions of Law no. 11 of 2008 regarding information and electronic transactions as amended by Law no. 19 of 2016 together with the Implementing Regulations, all electronic systems operators (PSEs) providing services in Indonesia have the obligation to ensure that the electronic systems they operate do not contain and do not facilitate the dissemination of prohibited electronic information, including content and online gambling business.
