IPW suggests that the regional police chief temporarily deactivate the Central Sulawesi Regional Police Traffic Directorate
Palu (MidLand) – Indonesia Police Watch has advised the Central Sulawesi regional police chief to temporarily dismiss Police Commissioner Dodi Darjanto from his position as traffic director of the Central Sulawesi regional police.
“Since this action falls under the category of alleged ethical violation and arrogant attitude, it would be best if the Central Sulawesi regional police chief temporarily deactivates him for disciplinary action,” IPW chairman Sugeng Teguh Santoso said when contacted from Palu City on Monday.
This, he said, can preserve the image of the National Police institution, which is currently in good condition. Do not let the good image of the institution be damaged by individuals who do not understand the work of the press and journalists.
This was expressed by Sugeng when asked to respond to the case of verbal abuse and refusal to interview by Dodi Darjanto, SCTV Palu bureau chief Syamsuddin Tobone.
The reason for the refusal was because Syamsuddin was believed to be using a Chinese brand mobile phone during the interviews.
“This action demonstrates an arrogant attitude that is unbecoming of a police officer,” he said.
Sugeng suggested that professional organizations supporting this case file an official complaint or report to the Central Sulawesi Regional Police Propam.
“The letter can be copied to the headquarters of the national police Propam and to the head of the national police,” he said.
He continued, the complaint could become the basis for a professional organization to oversee the follow-up of the case.
According to him, the Traffic Directorate’s CV could be included in the report, if he had ever done the same thing while he was a member of the National Police.
It is known that Dodi Darjanto, while serving as police chief of Siantar, North Sumatra, in 2015, once chased away journalists with dogs. At that time, the journalists wanted to cover the dispute over the rejection of Siantar’s mayoral candidate.
Previously, this incident started when Syamsuddin Tobone, who is the head of SCTV Palu bureau, wanted to conduct an interview with Police Commissioner Dodi Darjanto at Kilometer 0 Monument, Palu City. in order to cover the results of the Tinombala 2024 adjustment operation on the first day.
“I had promised an interview yesterday through his assistant. After greeting and getting to know each other, I wanted to start recording. He immediately said, why record the interview with a mobile phone? I don’t want to. Cooking the interview using a mobile phone, again a Chinese brand mobile phone. Tell your director to buy a sophisticated mobile phone,” Syamsuddin said.
Meanwhile, Dodi Darjanto, in his apology delivered on Thursday (18/7), before several journalists from Central Sulawesi and representatives of four media organizations, namely IJTI Central Sulawesi, AJI Palu, PFI Palu and AMSI Central Sulawesi, admitted that his actions were a mistake committed without any element of intention.
“What I did was a mistake, it didn’t mean anything. Basically, I was just joking, but that’s what happened. It didn’t mean anything, sir,” Dodi Darjanto said.
Although Central Sulawesi journalists have submitted and accepted an apology to maintain working relations between journalists and the Central Sulawesi Regional Police, IJTI Central Sulawesi, AJI Palu, PFI Palu and AMSI Central Sulawesi, who are members of the Roemah journalist community, still require firm action from the national police leadership regarding their attitude. The Central Sulawesi Regional Police traffic direction is considered verbal abuse and must be taken seriously.
