iPad Mini 7 will come with two new iPad Air models
TIME.CO, Jakarta – Apple will reportedly announce iPad right after not releasing the tablet for quite a long time. Finally, Apple introduced the iPad Pro M2 and iPad 10 in October last year.
The site 9to5Mac cites sources that several new iPads will be launched in the coming months, including iPad Mini7 and two new iPad Air models.
iPad mini 7 and iPad 11th generation
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said in December 2022 that Apple was working on a new iPad mini that is expected to be released in late 2023 or early 2024. This information was later confirmed by another leaker, ShrimpApplePro. Meanwhile, a source from 9to5Mac revealed that Apple still plans to introduce the iPad mini 7 soon, although the exact time is still unclear.
As for the design, it’s likely that the new iPad mini will still have the same design as the current generation, but with a faster chip. The current iPad mini 6 was launched in September 2021 and is still powered by the A15 Bionic chip, the same as the iPhone 13.
Apple also ran tests with the latest version of its entry-level iPad, codenamed J126b. The 10th generation iPad was introduced last year with a similar design to the iPad Air and a USB-C port, but with an A14 Bionic chip inside. It’s likely that the new entry-level iPad will simply receive a spec upgrade over the current model.
The new iPad Air and iPad Pro M3
In a higher class it is possible that Apple will make further improvements to its potential new tablet. Sources tell us that the company is testing two new versions of the iPad Air. Codenamed J507 and J508 (also for Wi-Fi and cellular versions), the iPad Air 6 will likely replace the iPad Air 5 with a new chip.
These patterns are in line with what Bloomberg reported in June. However, Apple is also working on other iPads identified as J537 and J538 based on the iPad Air. The only iPad that currently has more than one version is the iPad Pro, as it comes in 11- and 12.9-inch versions, so there are two models for each version.
Announcement
Since there is no official news yet, obviously the details are not yet clear at the moment. There’s at least a hint that Apple might consider introducing a larger version of the iPad Air or a more expensive model with better specs.
Apart from this, there are rumors that a next-generation iPad Pro with M3 chip will also arrive soon. The products are identified as J717 and J718 for the 11-inch model and J720 and J721 for the larger model.
Redesigned Magic Keyboard
As for keyboard accessories, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported last month that Apple has developed a new Magic Keyboard for the iPad that makes it feel more like a laptop. The build is said to be aluminum, not plastic, and the trackpad will be larger.
Sources at 9to5Mac confirm this report. The new Magic Keyboard for iPad is identified as R219 (the current version is codenamed R1x) and is equipped with new sensors, including an accelerometer. It is expected to launch alongside the new iPad Pro.
As for the operating systems of the new iPads, they will all be released with the next version of iPadOS 17. If you do the math, that means that iPadOS 17 will be announced between now and WWDC 2024 in June.
