Indonesian people celebrate Eid al-Fitr 1445 Hijriah in Cuba
Jakarta (MidLand) – Indonesian people celebrated Eid al-Fitr 1445 Hijriah and continued with the Halal Bi Halal event at the Ambassador’s House of the Indonesian Embassy in Havana, Cuba.
In a written statement received on Sunday in Jakarta, the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Cuba, Nana Yuliana, together with the staff of the Indonesian Embassy in Havana, celebrated Eid al-Fitr prayers on Wednesday (10/10) in Abdallah Mosque 4).
Eid al-Fitr celebration activities continued with Halal Bi Halal in Wisma Duta with the Indonesian community.
Ambassador Nana said the Eid atmosphere was quite palpable with the dishes of vegetable lontong and chicken opor, even though it was far from his homeland.
“Similarly, the Indonesian people in the Dominican Republic, where the Indonesian embassy in Havana is located, celebrate Eid in a simple but impressive way,” he said.
For your information, as a country with a communist government system, the Cuban government guarantees the freedom for people to worship according to their respective beliefs, including Muslim communities.
Islam entered Cuba starting in 1808, brought by slaves from Africa.
Although more than 50 percent of Cubans adhere to Christianity, Islam is one of the religions that has grown greatly since 1970, largely due to the large number of students from South Asia, the Middle East and Africa who receive scholarships from the Cuban government.
There is only one mosque in central Havana, namely the Abdallah Mosque, which was inaugurated as a mosque in 2015.
Since the existence of the Abdallah Mosque in Havana, the activities of the Muslim community have become easier with Friday prayers, Tarawih and Eid al-Fitr. The sermon delivered by the Imam is in Spanish.
During each Friday prayer or Eid al-Fitr prayer, the Indonesian Muslim community can gather and stay connected with other Muslims from many countries.
