Indonesian MPR President Hopes Successful 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections

Jakarta (MidLand) – Indonesian People’s Consultative Assembly President Bambang Soesatyo has called on all elements of the nation to ensure a success in the simultaneous regional head elections (Pilkada) in November 2024.

“The competition and political tension in the simultaneous regional elections may not be less fierce than the presidential (Pilpres) elections. Therefore, all elements of the nation must return to introspection,” he said at Senayan Parliamentary Complex, Jakarta, on Tuesday.

Bamsoet conveyed this invitation during the socialization of the four pillars of the Communication Forum for Sons and Daughters of Retired Military and Indonesian National Police (FKPPI).

He reminded all FKPPI cadres that after successfully passing the 2024 elections, now is the time for FKPPI to again become a locomotive in maintaining national brotherhood in facing the 2024 Pilkada.

“Don’t let differences in political choices create divisions in regions,” he said.

37 provinces and 508 districts/cities will participate in the 2024 simultaneous Pilkada. Almost all provinces and districts/cities in Indonesia, including Papua, are holding simultaneous regional elections. Except for Yogyakarta special region which does not hold gubernatorial elections, and DKI Jakarta which does not hold regional/pilwakot elections. Because the leadership process is regulated by Law no. 13/2012 regarding the Specialties of the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) and Law no. 29/2007 concerning the Provincial Government of the Special Capital Region of Jakarta.

According to Bamsoet, leaders in the regions must imitate the leaders of the center as exemplified by Prabowo-Gibran, Anies-Muhaimin and Ganjar-Mahfud, that there are times when they compete, there are times when they stand side by side.
