Indonesian Ambassador to Tunis Invited UN Leaders to Learn from Tunisian Religious After Pilgrimage
Jakarta (MidLand) – Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Tunis, Tunisia, Zuhairi Misrawi invited the cadres of the Nahdatul Ulama (NU) in that country to learn from the ulama as they retraced the footsteps of Tunisian clerics at the Zaitunah Mosque on Sunday.
“Zaitunah Mosque is a historical landmark and a source of Tunisian clergy. Therefore, every Tunisian cadre of the NU must know and draw inspiration from the Tunisian ulama,” Zuhairi said, according to a press release from the Indonesian embassy obtained by MidLand, Jakarta, Sunday.
The Zaitunah Mosque, says Zuhairi, was built in 698 AD. In the history of Tunisia, the mosque has given birth to superior scholars whose thoughts have become a source of inspiration in the construction of civilization.
Zuhairi explained to the NU cadres that becoming a religious scholar requires a serious and consistent learning process.
Therefore, through a pilgrimage to Zaitunah Mosque, Zuhairi called on NU cadres in the country to study seriously and diligently.
“Becoming a cleric and a scholar requires serious forging and learning. From Zaitunah Mosque we must learn that sincerity and perseverance are the keys in the process of becoming a cleric and a scholar,” he said.
“If Zaitunah Mosque can produce ulama who can color the world, then hopefully the NU cadres who study at Zaitunah University can become ulama and intellectuals in the future,” he further added.
During a trip or pilgrimage to Zaitunah Mosque, Zuhairi and the NU cadres met Sheikh Hisyam bin Mahmud, who is the mufti of Tunisia and the Grand Imam of Zaitunah Mosque.
On that occasion, Zuhairi requested Sheikh Hisyam to pray that the NU cadres become scholars and scholars who can benefit the nation and the world globally.
The pilgrimage to the Zaitunah Mosque took place in preparation for the 7th UN Special Corps Conference in Tunisia, which will be held on 22 July 2024.
During the conference, the Directorate of the Special Branch of the UN (PCINU) in Tunisia will formulate a vision, mission and program for scholarship and intellectualism.
