IJTI Jakarta and Polda Metro collaborate to hold a journalism skills test
So, even if there is a case related to journalistic products, the resolution will take place through intellectual channels or the Press Council.
Jakarta (MidLand) – The Greater Jakarta Indonesian Television Journalists Association (IJTI) and Polda Metro Jaya are collaborating again to hold a Journalism Proficiency Test (UKJ) at a hotel in Jakarta on Friday (19/7) and Saturday (20/7).
UKJ specifically for young TV journalists aims to improve the quality and professionalism of reporters/journalists.
UKJ Committee Chairman Tatang Ziza Putra in his statement in Jakarta on Sunday said that Polda Metro Jaya’s support has been very helpful in producing reliable journalists who can produce the best journalistic work.
“With many activities like this, IJTI Jakarta Raya together with Polda Metro Jaya contribute to producing verified journalists according to the current media needs amidst many fake news, so competent journalists are needed,” Tatang said.
The vice president of the organizational division of IJTI Jakarta said that the work of journalists, from seeking information to disseminating it in the form of news, must be based on facts and can be justified.
“So even if there is a lawsuit related to journalistic products, the resolution will happen through intellectual channels or the Press Council,” he said.
The number of participants who took part in the UKJ was 24 people from various media outlets, such as iNews Media Group, SCTV, tvOne, Metro TV, Kompas TV and Sinpo TV.
Meanwhile, IJTI Jakarta President Feby Budi Prasetyo explained that IJTI is a gathering place for TV journalists to appreciate the support of Polda Metro Jaya.
“This shows that the government and the private sector are serious about developing and increasing the role of the press in nation-building and state-building through the role of competent journalists in providing information to the public,” Feby said.
He also invited all TV journalists to take part in the UKJ organized by IJTI in various regions according to their respective professional fields. Reporters, cameramen or editors can take part in the UKJ for Junior, Intermediate and Primary levels.
Referring to the duties and responsibilities of journalists declared competent will become increasingly difficult. On this basis, he said, professional journalists must respect and implement the Code of Journalistic Ethics (KEJ) and the Press Law Number 40 of 1999, in the exercise of their profession.
“Judging from the objectives of UKJ, journalists are placed in a strategic position in the media sector, not only workers, laborers, who are just complementary components. For this reason, IJTI Jakarta Raya, with the support of various parties, will continue to maintain UKJ and make a great contribution in training competent journalists,” Feby said.
