IDAI Lampung: Increase dengue vaccination to prevent infection in children
Bandarlampung (MidLand) – The Lampung branch of the Indonesian Association of Pediatricians (IDAI) hopes that vaccination against dengue hemorrhagic fever (DBD) can be increased to prevent children from contracting the disease.
“We hope that more and more children will be vaccinated against dengue fever. For example, in one city in Kalimantan, where all children were vaccinated by the local government regularly and free of charge,” said IDAI Lampung President Dr. Fedriyansyah, SpA, MKes at the IDAI National Symposium in Bandarlampung, Friday.
He said more children receiving the dengue vaccine could help prevent infection and tackle dengue cases in children.
“This dengue disease is now timeless. Usually the trend of cases is in February and August due to the rainy season, now every month there are always dengue fever patients being treated. With more and more children vaccinated against dengue dengue fever, we hope that these cases of dengue fever can be managed and prevented,” he said.
“However, these preventive measures may be better if complemented by dengue vaccination. Because, according to research, dengue vaccination can reduce the number of patients treated and can reduce the risk of infection by 80%,” he added .
According to him, dengue vaccination can be given to children and adults aged 6 to 45 years.
“For children’s health in Lampung, there are currently many cases of infections such as dengue fever and digestive tract infections. It is estimated that in the next two weeks the trend of cases will continue to increase, because doctors in hospitals have reported that there The cases are starting to be many. And for dengue fever it is hoped that through vaccination “this can anticipate the exposure of children to dengue fever”, he further said.
The types of dengue vaccines used under BPOM distribution permits are known to be DENGVAXIA and QDENGA.
