How to Set DuckDuckGo as Your Default Search

Jakarta (MidLand) – DuckDuckGo is a Google-like search engine application developed since 2008 by Gabriel Weinberg and the DuckduckGo Inc. team. This search engine is also known for truly protecting the privacy and security of its users.

DuckDuckGo has seen good growth since its initial launch. Starting from 79,000 daily searches in 2010 to 31 million daily searches in June 2019, and continuing to grow to 98.79 million daily searches as of 2023.

Part of this growth is thanks to the collaboration with navigator used by many users, like Firefox and Safari. DDG also works with Linux and is available on Android and iOS.

1. Use Google Chrome

• Open Chrome, then click the “three-dot” menu icon in the upper-right corner of the window and click “Settings.”
• Select “Search Engine” from the list on the left side of the screen. Click the box drop down next to “Search engine used in address bar” then select DuckDuckGo.

2. Mozilla Firefox

• Open Firefox, click the “three lines” menu icon in the upper-right corner of the window, then click “Preferences.”
• Then click “Research” in the menu on the left of the screen, then under “Default search engine,” click on the box drop down and select DuckDuckGo.

3. Microsoft Edge

• Open Edge and click the “three-dot” menu button in the upper-right corner of the window, then select “Settings.”
• Click on “Privacy, Search and Services” in the menu that appears on the left, then scroll down to the “Services” menu and select “Address Field and Search”.
• Then, click the drop-down menu next to “Search engine used in address bar” and select DuckDuckGo.

4. Apple Safari

• On iOS devices such as iPhone, iPad, MacBook, and iMac, click “Safari” in the menu at the top of the screen, then click “Preferences.”
• You can also use shortcuts Command+ open Preferences Safari fast. Click Search tabthen select DuckDuckGo under the box “Search Engine” drop-down menu.
• On Safari for iPhone and iPad, launch the Settings app and tap “Safari.” Select “Search Engine,” then select DuckDuckGo from the list.
