TIME.CO, Jakarta – District Office of Education Gunungkidulspecial region of Yogyakarta by providing the Gunungkidul Smart Scholarship to anticipate the high dropout rate in this region.
Gunungkidul Education Bureau chief Nunuk Setyowati in Gunungkidul on Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2023, said that the dropout data aged between 7 and 18 recorded 336 children.
“To prevent children from dropping out of school, several programs have been prepared, one of which is providing scholarships in Smart Gunungkidul program which are given to underprivileged children,” he said.
He said the dropout rate was 336 children, made up of 240 boys and 96 girls.
Gunungkidul Education Bureau also provides motivation to children from kindergarten to middle school so that they have an idea of what they want to achieve.
Therefore, he asked each teacher to provide motivation to students in order to stimulate children to maintain enthusiasm for learning.
“Having these aspirations is very important because children are excited about achieving what they dream of. So every time I come to school, I keep encouraging my kids to reach their goals so that school doesn’t drop out midway through,” she said.

Campaign against child marriage
The local education office has also campaigned against child marriage, especially for female students, providing an insight into the dangers of child marriage with regards to health issues. “Obviously, fighting dropouts also requires the participation of all parties,” she said.
Gunungkidul DPRD Deputy Chairman Heri Nugroho said he was surprised by the dropout rate in the area.
“We coordinate with educational authorities to find the exact cause of this problem. We ask to reduce the number of cases of school dropouts and to find a solution so that children can still go to school,” she said.
