Google starts rolling out Gmail’s translation feature, what is it?

TIME.CO, Jakarta Gmail the web version has added an option that allows the user to translate the entire email with one click. However, the same is not true for the Android and iOS versions of the Gmail app. The new feature, called Gmail Translate, rolled out two days ago, according to a report from 9to5Google.

The report confirms that Gmail is finally getting a translation feature, but that’s a change server side and began to be viewed by a number of users. This is a phased rollout and will take some time to be visible to all users.

The feature appears in version 2023.07.23.x. So, make sure you have the latest version of the Gmail app installed on your phone. It’s also important to note that the feature only appears in the current version of Android. The iOS version of the app will get this feature in the coming weeks.

What is Gmail’s Translate feature?

Gmail translation, as the name suggests, allows users to translate entire email messages into the language of their choice. For example, if the email is in English and you want to translate it directly into Indonesian, this feature can help you.


The feature is said to add Gmail to appear flag “Translate to”. Tapping it gives the user the option to select a language or suggest a translation in the chosen language. However, there is also an option to display the original language.

The translation feature currently allows users to select one of 100 languages ‚Äč‚Äčavailable. A part from that, pop-up banners will appear automatically when the language of the email does not match the language of Gmail. However, there is an option to manually translate the entire body of the email by tapping the three-dot overflow menu in the upper right corner.
