TIME.CO, JakartaMission TO THE First English in Indonesia will be held from 25 to 27 September 2023. The British Temporary Chargé d’Affaires for Indonesia and East Timor, Matt Downing, said the mission aims to provide a safe space for British AI companies to understand the latest developments politicians in the field of artificial intelligence; connect experts from government, industry and academia; and share knowledge and best practice within the technology community, to help realize the UK and Indonesia’s shared ambition of building an inclusive digital ecosystem.

During its visit to Jakarta, the delegation will meet with a number of stakeholders in Indonesia, including the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), GoTo and Indonesia AI Society. “This mission follows the second meeting of the UK-Indonesia Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO) in July this year, where the two countries agreed to deepen collaboration in the digital economy,” he said as he opened the event attended by the AI Mission delegation in Jakarta, Monday 25 September 2023.

Downing said artificial intelligence is rapidly taking over all major industrial sectors. The Asia Pacific region is increasingly becoming a lucrative market for artificial intelligence. Countries in the region are embracing and investing in artificial intelligence, including Indonesia.

“With a young and tech-savvy population, many Indonesians are quickly starting to adopt and exploit the opportunities of AI, because AI offers great opportunities to develop the economy and provide better public services,” Downing said.

He said that, like other new technologies entering society, in addition to having the potential to provide benefits to human life, artificial intelligence technology is also at risk if it develops too rapidly without adequate limits. “With the enormous potential to change our future, we owe it to our children and grandchildren to be leaders not only in AI but also in AI safety,” she said.

In response to the rapid development of artificial intelligence in our daily lives and to ensure the safety of our society, the UK will host the first AI Safety Summit on 1 and 2 November this year.

This summit, Downing said, is a great opportunity for the UK and its partners to lead talks and negotiations, bringing together countries and AI experts, to ensure that the various parties have a platform for countries to work together, developing further a common approach. and also agree on the necessary security measures to mitigate AI-related risks.

“We look forward to welcoming our Indonesian colleagues to the UK AI Security Summit in the coming weeks in London,” he said. The UK’s first AI Security Summit will take place on 1 and 2 November 2023 in London.

“The visit of our AI delegation from the UK shows our commitment to working together with Indonesia, to realize the digital potential in both countries and work together to ensure the safe and responsible development of AI on the global stage “, he has declared.

The eight organizations taking part in the mission represent a range of expertise including education and training, health technology and defence. “By fostering partnerships with their Indonesian counterparts, both in research capabilities and technology commercialization, this delegation wants to identify areas where they can work together to harness the power of artificial intelligence for the good of society,” he added.

Dr. Anto Satriyo Nugroho, head of the Artificial Intelligence Research Center at the National Research and Innovation Agency, explained on that occasion that the Artificial Intelligence Research Center is located in Bandung and has approximately 113 researchers focusing on research.

The AI Research Center currently has no collaboration with the UK, but collaboration with external parties already exists, although not yet in the form of an MoU. “We hope that with England there is research that can be carried out together, obviously the topic needs to be discussed first, equalizing perceptions may take some time,” she said. He added that among the research he wanted to carry out was that related to machine learning.
