JAKARTA – Around thousands of records of online gambling sites have been handed over by the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kemenkominfo) to the Indonesian National Police (Polri), for legal action.
Furthermore, in the near future, the Ministry of Communications and Information will hold a coordination meeting with the National Police regarding the eradication of online gambling

“Next week we will coordinate again to jointly discuss the continuation of the eradication of online gambling,” said Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi in his office in central Jakarta on Friday (20 /10/2023).
He said that so far the National Police has taken legal action against managers and individuals promoting online gambling.
He also highlighted that the Ministry of Communications and Information has entrusted the task of implementing applicable laws regarding online gambling entirely to the National Police.
“We provide the data, basically like this, law enforcement is not Kominfo’s business, it is a matter of law enforcement, of the Republic of Indonesia Police,” he said.

So far, the Ministry of Communication and Information has blocked 425,506 online gambling contents in the period from July 18 to October 18, 2023. 236,098 of these contents came from sites or Internet Protocol addresses (IP addresses). Therefore, 17,235 contents coming from file sharing. Then, 171,175 contents from social media.
The Ministry of Communication and Information also harshly reprimanded the META platform company for facilitating online gambling. The notice contains a request from the Ministry of Communications and Information for the company owned by Mark Zuckerberg to block online gambling content and advertisements within 1X24 hours.
