Empowering Farmers, Baznas Opens Bandung Horticultural Food Barn
Jakarta (MidLand) – Indonesia’s National Agency Zakat Amil (Baznas) has inaugurated a horticulture shed in Alamendah village, Bandung regency, West Java, in an effort to empower local farmers.
Baznas collaborates with the Al-Ittifaq Islamic College Cooperative (Kopontren Al-Ittifaq) in an effort to advance the farmers’ economy in the Al-Ittifaq Islamic College area.

“Al-Ittifaq Kopontren Food Barn is the seventh of the 8 points of the food barn program developed by Baznas RI during the period 2020-2024,” Baznas RI MP II Imdadun Rachmat said in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday.
By using 1.4 hectares of land, Imdadun said, his party hopes to have a significant positive impact on the economy of local farmers, as well as help increase food security in the region.
“This program not only provides assistance with production facilities and business capital, but farmers will be provided with training and assistance to ensure the success of their developing farming business,” he said.
Meanwhile, Al-Ittifaq Kopontren Chairman Agus Setia Irawan hopes that this food shed will bring great benefits to the farming community in Alamendah village, Rancabali district, especially in terms of increasing agricultural production and their economic well-being.
“Thank God, after receiving Baznas’ help, farmers experienced an increase in their farm income by 14.5% with an income of IDR 4,428,298 per month. We hope that in the future it can continue to increase,” he said.
The Food Barn is a program aimed at empowering Mustahik farmers by developing agribusinesses from cultivation to marketing by providing training, capital assistance for crop production facilities, and agribusiness development and support.

Al-Ittifaq Kopontren Food Granary Group consists of 20 assisted Mustahik people and produces various types of agricultural products, such as lettuce, carrots, chili peppers, cabbage, spring onions, mint leaves, radishes, chayote, white mustard and cayenne peppers.
On the occasion of the inauguration, the RI of Baznas also distributed aid for agricultural needs in the form of cultivators and machines. windingfertilizers, geotextiles and other types of assistance that represent the basic needs of the assisted farmers.
