Electric vehicle sales in South Korea fell 25%.
Jakarta (MidLand) – Sales of electric vehicles in South Korea in the first quarter of 2024 fell by 25% compared to the previous year, while sales of gasoline hybrid models increased by 46% in the same period, according to trackers market on Friday (5/4).
As global EV sales growth slowed, EV registrations in the country from January to March 2024 fell to 25,550 units compared to 34,186 units in the same period last year, CarIsYou said in a statement cited by the Yonhap news agency (5/4). .
In contrast, sales of gasoline hybrid vehicles in the first quarter of 2024 jumped to 99,832 units from 68,249 units last year.

In the March quarter, sales of gasoline vehicles fell 19% to 196,472 units from 241,742 units a year ago. Sales of diesel cars fell 56% to 39,039 units compared to 88,154 units in the same period.
Industry players expect EV sales to remain sluggish throughout the year due to the high prices of zero-emission cars, lack of charging infrastructure and potential fire risks.
