TIME.CO, Jakarta – Efa Yonnedi is set as principal selected by Board of Trustees of the University of Andalas (MWA) o Unand West Sumatra.
“The MWA has just elected a new rector and Mr. Efa Yonnedi has been elected for the 2023-2028 term,” said Unand MWA President Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, Tuesday, October 31, 2023.
According to Wahyu, the election of the rector of UNAND was very democratic because it involved different elements of the academic community, from alumni, to students, to teachers, to the university academic senate to the MWA.
12 candidates registered in the elections for the chancellor for the 2023-2028 term. Of this number, there are three candidates considered to have the best ratings.
The three candidates were also first tested at ministerial level and then decided through direct election through the plenary meeting of the MWA. BIn the plenary meeting held behind closed doors, Efa Yonnedi obtained the highest number of votes, namely 20 votes.
The dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business achieved a landslide victory over two other candidates, namely Fatma Sri Wahyuni who received three votes and Ikhwana Elfitri with two votes.

Meanwhile, UNAND rector-elect Efa Yonnedi said he will carry out his mandate to the best of his ability and try to make the university more advanced in various areas, especially regarding the advancement of education in Indonesia. “We can carry out this mandate with intense collaboration and cooperation among the academic community,” he said.
To implement the vision and mission carried forward, the EFA promised to engage all existing potential to build a UNAND that is inclusive, solution-making and contributory to the nation and the state.
In this chancellor election there have been a number of changes. Among these is the issue of the duration of the chancellor’s mandate, which has increased from four to five years. In addition to this, the election of the deputy chancellor is now carried out by the MWA and the results are final because among the members of the MWA there is also the Minister of Education and Culture. Subsequently, the inauguration of the acting rector will be carried out by the president of the MWA of Andalas University. The inauguration of the chancellery is scheduled for November 24, 2023.
