Drought Emergency Standby Set, Kupang District NTT: August 1 to 30

TIME.CO, Jakarta – The government of Kupang regency, East Nusa Tenggara province has declared a state of emergency alert for natural disasters Drought and forest and land fires during August 2023 following El Nino.

The establishment of a state of emergency alert for drought, forest and land fires was declared in Kupang Regent’s Decree No.: 311/KEP/HK/2023 dated July 31, 2023 received in Kupang on Monday, August 7, 2023.

Kupang Regent Korinus Masneno said the disaster status due to drought was determined based on the results of a rapid study conducted by the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) regarding the potential for drought, forest fires and land threatening the lives and livelihoods of people in Kupang regency.

“To overcome this drought potential, a state of emergency alert for drought and forest and land fires needs to be established in the Kupang regency,” said Regent Korinus Masneno.

According to him, the state of emergency alert for drought in Kupang regency will start from August 1 to 30, 2023.

He said that after establishing the drought alert status, the management of the threat of drought, forest and land fires in Kupang regency has been carried out in an integrated manner involving all elements, whether through regional apparatuses, national armed forces Indonesians, the police, NGOs and related institutions.

BPDB mapping

Based on the mapping done by the BPBD, there are four sub-districts in Kupang Regency which are in the alert category, while six sub-districts are in the disaster alert category.

The four sub-districts included in the disaster alert category are West Fatuleu District, Semau District, South Semau District, and Sulamu District.

In addition, six districts are on disaster alert status: Nekamese District, South Amarasi District, Southwest Amfoang District, Northwest Amfoang District and Subdistrict Central Amfoang.
