Disney Plus will begin tracking users who share passwords in June 2024
Jakarta (MidLand) – Disney has stressed that it will begin to take firm action against users who share password for the Disney Plus application with other users who are not part of the same household in June 2024.
In an article from The Verge on Friday, the news came from Disney CEO Bob Iger, who said that tough measures will be taken in several countries as a start.
Subsequently, this firm action will be extended globally to all their customers in September 2024.
It appears that Disney’s firm action is forcing users who share passwords without being part of the same family to have two different subscription services.
This news is also reinforced by Disney Chief Financial Officer Hugh Johnston’s statement in early February 2024 discussing Disney’s earnings.

He confirmed that Disney Plus subscribers suspected of improper password sharing will see a prompt from Disney to sign up for their subscriptions this summer.
Customers can also add members outside of their household for an additional fee, but Disney has yet to provide details on how much that will cost.
In fact, the anti-sharing rule password for the Disney Plus app initially applies to new customers on January 25, 2024 and begins to apply to existing members on March 14, 2024.
The practice of prohibiting sharing password among users of entertainment services streaming OR Exaggerated (OTT) has been widely used by service developers.
This is because this practice causes significant losses to businesses run by service developers.
Netflix becomes a service streaming the first to crack down on password sharing in 2023.
They charge users an additional $7.99 per month to add additional out-of-home viewers.
Returning to Disney, in an attempt to improve service and customers have previously combined the Disney Plus and Hulu applications.
This is done to encourage more customers to access more content and subscribe to packages streaming which is much more profitable.
The new merged app not only combines content from both services, but also combines customers’ viewing history so they can get better recommendations.
