Deputy Minister of Communication and Information: Collaboration to create a peaceful digital space during elections
Jakarta (MidLand) – Deputy Minister of Communication and Information (Wamenkominfo) Nezar Patria said that all-party cooperation has succeeded in keeping the digital space peaceful during the 2024 Democratic Party or general elections (Pemilu).
Representing the Minister of Communication and Information, Budi Arie Setiadi, who received the “Special Award: Outstanding Leadership in Preserving Indonesian Digital in Elections” on Monday (13/5) in Bali, Nezar said that amidst many digital challenges such as misinformation and disinformation, Indonesia managed to hold the 2024 simultaneous elections smoothly and maintaining unity.
“This award is the result of collaboration between all parties in protecting our digital space. “The 2024 elections will be extraordinary. Thank God, we saw that this time the elections, presidential and legislative, went well,” she said in a press release received in Jakarta on Wednesday.

According to Deputy Minister Nezar Patria, Indonesia is currently increasingly connected and allows access to the Internet from various places. In fact, there has been an increase in the production and access to data and information via the internet.
Various institutions record how data is produced on digital platforms, for example Facebook has 1.7 million uploads in one minute.
So, Google performed 6.5 million searches in the same time. Additionally, nearly 70,000 people upload photos to Instagram every minute, and YouTube has 500 hours of video every 60 seconds.

He stressed that the Ministry of Communications and Information is trying to fulfill its tasks to maintain the digital space so that it is healthier and more peaceful for all Indonesian people. However, according to the Deputy Minister of Communication and Information, this is not easy to implement.
“Maintaining the digital space is not an easy task, especially for the Ministry of Communication and Information because it has to be balanced in safeguarding national interests and also balanced in providing space for civil liberties and free speech,” he said.
Therefore, the Ministry of Communication and Information seeks to involve all parties involved in maintaining the national digital space.

The Deputy Minister of Communication and Information also appreciated the media that participated in the network against misinformation and disinformation with a number of digital platforms.
“With the mature experience of two elections and digital literacy carried out quite intensively by the Ministry of Communications and Information, everything will have a good impact on the conduct of the 2024 elections,” he said.
