Copa Libertadores and Sudamericana postponed due to heavy floods

Jakarta (MidLand) – The South American football body (CONMEBOL) has announced that it has postponed Copa Libertadores and Sudamerica matches following heavy rains and floods that hit Porto Alegre, Brazil.

“CONMEBOL has decided to postpone the Libertadores match between Huachipato of Chile and Gremio of Brazil, scheduled for Wednesday (8/5),” CONMEBOL said in a statement on its official website on Sunday.

“The South American match between Real Tomayapo of Bolivia and Internacional of Brazil, scheduled for Tuesday (7/5), has also been postponed,” the statement continues.

“The new match program will be announced soon,” the statement continues.

Massive floods in Brazil have killed 55 people and knocked out electricity in neighborhoods where more than 350,000 people live.

Local authorities also temporarily suspended operations at Porto Alegre’s Salgado Filho International Airport due to flooding. Even the access road to the airport is not passable because it is blocked by overflowing water.
