Samarinda (MidLand) –
The Chinese community in Samarinda, East Kalimantan, celebrated Chinese New Year 2575 Kongzili or Chinese New Year on Saturday by praying together at the Tien Le Kong Temple, in Jalan Yos Sudarso, facing Samarinda Port.
“This year, Confucians are entering the year of the wooden dragon, which we believe is a year full of luck and prosperity,” said an ethnic Chinese resident in Samarinda who took part in the Chinese New Year celebration at the temple Tien Le Kong, Sui Ye Cin.
In this temple, Confucian believers perform various rituals to ask for prayers and blessings from God and their ancestors. They also burned documents containing requests and thanks to God.
“I have practiced this tradition of asking for prayers at the temple since I was little,” the 82-year-old ethnic Chinese resident told MidLand.
Sui Ye Cin explained that in this temple there are many gods revered by Confucians. He admitted that he believed that these gods would help him in everything.
“In addition to praying in the temple, we also have other traditions to celebrate Chinese New Year, including gathering with family and friends, having lunch together and telling stories,” he also said.
He said typical foods usually served during Chinese New Year include spring rolls, soto, satay, lontong cap go meh and others.
“I hope this year’s Chinese New Year celebration will bring blessings and happiness to individuals and families,” he said.
A young Chinese woman from Samarinda, Jennifer (18), said that Chinese New Year is the most awaited moment. In addition to receiving angpau, she can also reunite with relatives and friends who rarely meet.
“We usually get together with relatives we haven’t seen in a long time, and we eat with the family, we can meet uncles, aunts, cousins and grandparents. It’s really fun,” Jennifer said.
He is also happy to be able to hold it open house at his house. She invited her friends who were not only ethnic Chinese to come and have fun together. They can go out and share stories with each other.
Lest we forget, Jennifer also mentioned her favorite food during Chinese New Year. According to him, the most delicious food that should not be missing on the dining table is suckling pig. He also likes lontong cap go meh with a combination of lontong, vegetable lodeh, chicken opor and fried liver chilli sauce.
