China will not participate in the peace conference on Ukraine in Switzerland
Beijing (MidLand) – The Chinese government has confirmed that it will not participate in the peace conference to achieve peace in Ukraine, scheduled to be held in Switzerland, because the proposals put forward by Beijing have not been satisfied.
“There is a clear gap between the agreements of the meeting and what China represents and the expectations of the international community. In this regard, China is unlikely to be able to take part in the meeting,” the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Mao Ning at a press conference in Beijing. on Fridays.
The Swiss government announced on May 2 that the country will hold an international conference to initiate dialogue to achieve peace in Ukraine on June 15 and 16, 2024 at Ukraine’s request.
Switzerland announced that it had invited more than 160 delegates from all over the world to meet in the tourist area of Burgenstock, a Swiss mountain in the Nidwalden region. The invited delegates included members of the G7, G20, BRICS, the European Union, several international organizations and two religious representatives.
However, it is said that Russia was not invited to the meeting because Russia has repeatedly stated publicly that it is not interested in participating, so Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that it is impossible to expect anything serious from a conference in which Russia Russia did not participate. attend.
“China has always emphasized that international peace conferences must meet three important elements, namely recognition by Russia and Ukraine, equal participation of all parties, and fair discussion of all peace plans,” he said. added Mao Ning.
If these three things are not satisfied, according to Mao Ning, the peace conference will not be able to play a substantial role in restoring peace.
“These items proposed by China contain a sense of fairness, legitimacy and do not target any party,” Mao Ning said.
Mao Ning further stated that these three elements are also contained in the Joint Agreement on the Political Solution of the Ukrainian Crisis, which was recently jointly concluded by China and Brazil and which reflects the common concerns of the international community, especially developing countries.
“But based on what we have heard from various parties and the agreements made for the meeting, it seems that the three elements proposed by China will not be met,” Mao Ning said.
Mao Ning said that China has informed relevant parties of these considerations and concerns.

“We will continue to carry out peace talks in our own way, maintain communication with all parties and bring various parties together for a political solution to the Ukrainian crisis,” Mao Ning said.
Previously, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had proposed a 10-point peace formula that included the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukrainian territory and the restoration of Ukraine’s territorial integrity, as well as several other proposals based on the UN Charter and fundamental principles of international law.
Zelensky also said his party wants China to participate in peace talks in Switzerland. In a phone call, Zelensky even tried to convince Chinese President Xi Jinping to support Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
Involving global players like China, according to Zelensky, is very important because it has influence on Russia, and the more countries like these we have on our side, the more Russia has to move and therefore the more countries have to be taken into account.
Two years have passed so far since Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine on February 24, 2022. About 18% of Ukrainian territory is still under Russian occupation, including the Crimean peninsula and most of Donetsk and Lugansk in East.
