China produces 32.85 ZB of data in 2023

Fuzhou (MidLand) – China will produce 32.85 zetabytes (ZB) of data in 2023, up 22.44% annually (Year after year/aa), according to a report released Friday (5/24) at the 7th Digital China Summit in Fuzhou, east China’s Fujian Province.

According to the 2023 edition of the National Data Resources Survey Report, China experienced rapid growth in the production of unstructured data in 2023. The rapid development of 5G and artificial intelligence (AI) technology, as well as the widespread use of smart devices, have significantly contributed to the increase in the production of unstructured data. the total increase in data volume through content creation and audiovisual media.

In terms of data storage, China’s cumulative data storage volume will reach 1.73ZB in 2023, with the storage utilization rate rising to 59%.

By the end of 2023, the scale of computing power at more than 2,200 data centers across the country will increase by approximately 30% (year-on-year). According to the report, the demand for computing power for training large models is increasing, with growing needs observed in the scientific, government, financial and industrial sectors.

The report also shows that the overall management and utilization of data resources in China is still in its infancy, with challenges such as still insufficient provision of effective data.
