China launches campaign to eradicate illegal links in cyberspace
Jakarta (MidLand) – China’s Central Commission for Cyber Affairs has launched a two-month nationwide campaign to remove and ban illegal external links on social media and other online platforms.
According to the commission, reported Sunday (28/4) by Xinhua, the campaign targets social media users who place illegal external links in usernames, profile photos or account pages on online platforms.
Besides that, the illegal external link campaign also targets people who post links in the comments column.
The illegal external links targeted by the campaign were pornography, fake content uploaded to WeChat chats or via Moments, a WeChat feature that allows users to upload images and writings.
Through the campaign, the Commission will examine external links on live streaming platforms, dating sites, map services, browsers and e-commerce platforms to crack down on illegal links that lead users to access pornographic content, sexual services, fraud or gambling.
