China highlights Japan’s defense budget and urges commitment to peace
BEIJING (MidLand) – China is highlighting Japan’s defense budget for 2024 and urging Japan to commit to the path of peaceful development, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Friday (3/29).
Lin made this statement at a routine press conference regarding reports that the Japanese parliament approved the budget for fiscal year 2024, with a record defense budget of 7.95 trillion yen (1 yen = Rp. 104.51).
Given Japan’s recent history of military aggression, Japan’s military and security actions are closely monitored by its Asian neighbors and the international community, Lin said.
In recent years, Japan has significantly changed its security policies, increasing its defense budget year after year, easing restrictions on arms exports and pursuing military advances, Lin said.
According to him, this action triggered close monitoring by its Asian neighbors and the international community, raising doubts about Japan’s sincerity in maintaining its commitment to exclusively defense-oriented policies and following the path of peaceful development.
“We urge Japan to sincerely respect the security concerns of neighboring countries, to reflect deeply on its history of aggression, to commit itself to the path of peaceful development, and to avoid a further loss of trust from its Asian neighbors and the international community ” Lin said.
