China embraces the rapid development of artificial intelligence and diverse application scenarios
Jakarta (MidLand) – Wearing a pink hairpin, a white T-shirt and pink shorts, a “little girl” who appears to be three or four years old is in the spotlight at the ongoing Zhongguancun 2024 Forum exhibition in Beijing.
The “little girl” called Tong Tong, or Little Girl in English, is an advanced virtual artificial intelligence (AI) avatar based on artificial general intelligence (AGI), according to the director of the Beijing General Intelligence Institute, the developer of the product Zhu Songchun.
In the demonstration video, having been programmed to like things in an orderly manner, Tong Tong independently picks up a rag to wipe up the spilled milk when he sees it on the table. This behavior results from his autonomous decisions being made based on a guide of values, rather than a pre-prepared program.
“Unlike conventional AI, it can understand your words, interpret your meaning, and offer help proactively,” Zhu explained, adding that Tong Tong is expected to be applied in a variety of scenarios and empower industries in six fields, including the emergency sector. transport, education and healthcare.
With an abundance of AI-related innovations like Tong Tong, China now sees its AI sector on the fast track. According to data from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the total size of China’s major artificial intelligence industry has reached 500 billion yuan (1 yuan = IDR 2,236), or about 70.37 billion US dollars (1 US dollar = IDR 16,208), and the amount of related companies penetrated into 4,400.
In the field of autonomous driving, unmanned vehicles supported by AI technology can automatically choose the optimal route, maintain the right speed and navigate complex road sections smoothly. In the medical field, surgical robots equipped with artificial intelligence systems can help improve surgical precision and accuracy, which helps reduce postoperative pain and shorten patients’ hospital stay.
As for large language models (LLMs), which have become the mainstream of artificial intelligence development, official data shows that the number of independently developed LLMs in China ranks second in the world, and that more of 100 LLMs with more than 1 billion parameters have been launched in China. China.
Wang Haifeng, chief technology officer of Chinese tech giant Baidu, revealed that the user base of their ChatGPT-like LLM product, called Ernie Bot, has surpassed 200 million users. The product provides a wide range of services, including speech writing, business plans and instructions, as well as drawing flowcharts and mind maps, covering many aspects of work and life.
“Currently, China is making efforts to master advanced LLM algorithms, promote deep integration between computing software and hardware, and accelerate technological transformation towards applications in various industries,” said iFlytek President Liu Qingfeng. iFlytek is one of the leading artificial intelligence companies in China.
In Liu’s eyes, China has established a comparative advantage in the fields of voice LLM and medical LLM.
“It is expected that more and more innovative application scenarios and forms of AI products will emerge in 2024,” said Wu Hequan, an academician at the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE). “China is currently the leading country in the Internet industry and will become the leading country in the application of artificial intelligence,” he said.
