Bulog: The wheat harvest program still exists even though farmers are not affected by it

So, the goal is really to give a signal to the market that if you can’t use the conventional approach, you can use the approach that Bulog takes.

Karawang (MidLand) – Perum Bulog chief director Bayu Krisnamurthi said his party will continue to support and carry out the Pick Up Grain program even if interest from farmers is minimal.

“To harvest rice grains carried out by Bulog, it turns out that not many people use the rice grain harvesting facility. But will the Rice Grain Pick Up program be eliminated? Which not. Still there, we are Wait As soon as. “It’s still there,” Bayu said on Monday on the sidelines of a direct inspection of Bulog’s rice milling center (SPP) in Karawang, West Java.

Bayu said the Pick Up Grain program was little appreciated by farmers because farmers already had good relationships and connections with small millers in their respective areas.

“Why? Because these farmers also have good relationships and are linked to the small mills in their area. “Or even the collectors, because they have a long relationship with the collectors and the small mills,” Bayu said.

According to Bayu, what has happened so far is that farmers sell their grain to small mills or collectors with a moisture content of around 25-30%. After that, small millers or collectors will sell to Bulog Rice Milling Center (SPP).

“Are they calculating whether they will get in or whether they will make money or not? That’s how. So it turns out it’s still possible. So with relaxation the price can still rise. “So they didn’t choose this program, they didn’t use rice grain harvesting,” Bayu said.

Even so, Bayu said the Grain Pickup program was a signal to the market that Bulog is ready to go down to the farmer’s level to maintain price stability.

“If it is really necessary (to harvest wheat) we can do it. “So, that’s the goal, to give a signal to the market that if you can’t use the conventional approach, you can use the approach that Bulog takes,” Bayu said.

Perum Bulog noted that it has absorbed 1,050,000 tonnes of dry grain harvested at the farmer level or 535,000 tonnes of rice equivalent for national rice supply through May 19, 2024.

“Bulog’s total supply as of May 19, 2024 reached 535 thousand tons of rice equivalent or approximately 1,050,000 tons of grain equivalent,” Bayu said.

Bayu said the rice was absorbed to bolster government rice reserves (CBP). Of the 535,000 tons, this is a combination of rice allocated by the government or public service obligation (PSO) to commercial rice.

He said the main crop season of the first planting season or MT1 will end in the next two weeks. Bulog predicts that by the end of May 2024, Bulog aims to absorb 600 thousand tons of rice equivalent from farmers.
