BMKG weather forecast: rain in several areas, North Maluku, Jambi and Palangkaraya Smoky warning

TIME.CO, Jakarta – Council of Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG) released weather forecast for Friday, September 15, 2023, with parts of Indonesia affected To rain moderate to light, strong winds and high waves.

“Medium intensity rain is expected in Jayapura and Medan on Friday. Light intensity rain is likely to occur in Banda Aceh, Pontianak, Samarinda, Tarakan, Ambon, Manokwari, Pekanbaru, Mamuju and Manado,” as quoted by BMKG.

The provincial capitals of Jambi and Palangkaraya were shrouded in smoke, while fog fell in Jambi. The air temperature ranges from 17-35°C with the lowest temperature in Bandung, while the highest temperature is in Semarang and Makassar. Forecast based on the impact of heavy rainfall with a state of alert in the Northern Maluku Islands.

Areas that have the potential for strong winds are Bangka Belitung Islands, West Java, NTB, NTT, West Sulawesi and South Sulawesi.

BMKG has issued an early warning of high waves potentially occurring in several Indonesian waters on September 15 and 16, 2023.

Winds in northern Indonesia generally move from the southeast-southwest with wind speeds between 5 and 25 knots. In southern Indonesia, however, it generally moves from east to south-east at a speed of 8-30 knots.

The highest wind speeds were observed in the southern Sunda Strait, Banten waters, Arafuru Sea, Yos Sudarso waters and waters south of Merauke.

This condition entails the possibility of an increase in waves up to 2.5-4 m high in the waters west of Aceh up to the Mentawai Islands, in the waters of Bengkulu west of Lampung, in the Indian Ocean west of Aceh up to the Mentawai Islands Nias, western and southern parts of the Sunda Strait, the waters south of Banten to East Java, the southern waters of Bali to Sumbawa, the southern Bali-Lombok-Alas Strait, the southern Sape Strait, the southern waters of Sumba Island, the waters of Kupang-Rote Island, Savu Sea, Ombai Strait, southern waters of Flores, Indian Ocean south of NTT, southern waters of the Tanimbar Islands and Arafuru Sea.

Very high waves of 4-6 meters are likely to occur in the Indian Ocean west of the Mentawai Islands to Lampung and in the Indian Ocean south of Banten to NTB.
