BMKG warns Natuna of the risk of extreme weather conditions, moderate to heavy rain accompanied by strong winds

MidLand, Jakarta – Council of Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG) made an appeal to the people of the District NatunaRiau Islands, to always be careful of extreme weather that could potentially occur in the area.

The head of the Ranai meteorological station, Feriomex Hutagalung, quoted by Antara, said that extreme weather conditions, i.e. moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds, could occur during the period from December 10 to 12.

It said moderate to heavy rainfall could occur in the morning, afternoon and early morning.

This condition occurs due to the existence of cyclonic circulation patterns and convergence areas in the Natuna Waters area, thus influencing the growth of confecting clouds which causes an increase in rainfall intensity.

“Strong winds and high waves increasing in Natuna Regency waters,” it said on Saturday, December 9, 2023.

He then reminded citizens to always pay attention and always monitor the weather forecast.

“Extreme weather conditions may trigger hydrometeorological disasters such as tornadoes, floods, inundations and landslides in the areas of Bunguran Island, Tiga Island, Serasan Island, Subi Island, Midai Island and ‘Island of Laut,’ he said.

Meanwhile, residents of Natuna Dila said such conditions usually occur late or early in the year.

Usually rain accompanied by strong winds during this period causes trees to fall. “We hope that the situation is not as serious as a few days ago,” she said.

According to him, if such a period occurs, a shortage of goods will begin to occur in Natuna because the process of distribution of goods will be disrupted.

“Usually the waves will also be high, ships will be banned from sailing, the impact is that supplies of goods in Natuna will decrease and it will be difficult, if not expensive, to procure,” he said.
