BMKG recalls forests and silviculture in East Java, South Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, Lampung and South Sumatra
TIME.CO, Jakarta – The Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics or BMKG warns of the risk of forest and land fires (Forest and land fires) in several regions of Indonesia, on Sunday, October 1, 2023, in the midst of the hot weather that hit the country. The warning was broadcast by BMKG via the bmkg.go.id page, monitored in Jakarta, early Sunday morning.
According to BMKG, several areas that have the potential for forest and land fires include Jambi, parts of East Java, South Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan and parts of Lampung.
Besides that, East Nusa Tenggara and parts of South Sumatra (Ogan Komering Ilir, Ogan Ilir, Prabumulih, Banyuasin, Musi Banyuasin, Ogan Komering Ulu, Lahat, East Ogan Komering Ulu, Empat Lawang, Musi Rawas, North Musi Rawas and Muara Enim).
Specifically in Central Kalimantan, the BMKG urges the population not to burn the land for any reason. “Be alert to the potential worsening of air quality due to increased air pollution originating from forest and land fires in the Central Kalimantan region,” the BMKG advised.
For this reason, the public is advised to reduce activities outside the home and, outdoors, to use face coverings/masks, especially for people who have a history of respiratory problems, children, pregnant women and elderly parents.
As previously reported, the BMKG predicted that the scorching heat phenomenon in a number of regions in Indonesia could last until October 2023. “This scorching heat phenomenon is expected to continue into the October period,” it said BMKG meteorological officer Guswanto in Jakarta, Saturday (30/9) .
