BMKG predicts rain will hit several cities, four cities covered in smoke

TIME.CO, Jakarta – The Agency of Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG) has issued a weather forecast for Sunday 15 October 2023, with parts of Indonesia hit by rain.

Rain accompanied by lightning is expected to hit Pekanbaru on Sunday, while moderate intensity rain is expected in Banda Aceh, Serang, Tarakan and Medan.

“Light rain is likely to occur in Banjarmasin, Palangkaraya, Samarinda, Ambon, Jayapura, Manokwari, Mamuju and Manado,” as quoted by BMKG.

Several provincial capitals were shrouded in smoke, namely Jambi, Banjarmasin, Palangkaraya and Palembang. The air temperature ranges from 17 to 36°C with the lowest temperature in Bandung and the highest temperature in Semarang and Palembang.

Forecasts based on the impact of heavy rains with a state of alert in Aceh, North Sumatra, North Kalimantan and Papua. No province is on alert.

BMKG has issued an early warning of high waves potentially occurring in several Indonesian waters on 15-16 October 2023.

Winds in northern Indonesia generally move from the southwest with wind speeds between 4 and 25 knots. In southern Indonesia, however, it generally moves from east to south-east at a speed of 15-30 knots. The highest wind speed was observed in the southern part of the Makassar Strait.

This condition causes the possibility of an increase in waves up to 2.5-4 m high in the waters of the Simeulue Islands up to the Mentawai Islands, in the waters of Enggano, in the waters west of Lampung, in the Indian Ocean west of Aceh up to Lampung, in the southern part of the Sunda Strait, waters south of Java, waters south of Bali to the island of Sumba, the southern part of the Bali-Lombok-Alas-Sape Strait and the southern Indian Ocean to NTB.
