Banca Mandiri is today the leader in the sector with a share of over 30% in the ecological sector

Jakarta (MidLand) – PT Bank Mandiri (Persero) Tbk President and Director Darmawan Junaidi said his party has to date deployed IDR 253 trillion in a sustainable credit portfolio, with a green portfolio share of 48 % of the total.

This achievement represents Bank Mandiri’s commitment to encourage sustainable financing as outlined in the Company’s main strategic pillar, namely Sustainable Banking, which aims to drive a low-carbon economy.

“As a result, Bank Mandiri is now an industry leader with a share of more than 30% in the environmentally friendly sector,” Darmawan said at the Mandiri Sustainability Forum 2023 in Jakarta on Thursday.

Looking ahead, he highlighted that Bank Mandiri is committed to being at the forefront of the Government’s plans to implement a low-carbon transition.

The company also took part in Indonesia’s first carbon trading in September 2023 to support the government’s efforts to establish a market mechanism to meet greenhouse gas reduction targets.

The bank with the gold ribbon logo is also taking several ambitious steps in its operational goals to achieve net-zero emissions operations (net zero) in 2030. To achieve this goal, Bank Mandiri is leveraging digitalization efforts through the Livin’ and Kopra platforms.

On the other hand, Darmawan said, the Company is also making efforts to neutralize carbon emissions by installing solar panels, investing in electric vehicles as operational cars, developing digital carbon monitoring and transforming physical branches.

“We have closed more than 200 branches since 2021,” he added.

Meanwhile, on the social aspect, he continued, Bank Mandiri’s objective is to encourage social impact and contribute to the achievement of sustainable development goals through various financial inclusion initiatives and corporate social responsibility programmes.

Therefore, Bank Mandiri organizes the Mandiri Sustainability Forum 2023 as an important platform for concrete actions to achieve a low-carbon economy that is in line with the pillars of sustainable banking.

“Through this collective effort, Bank Mandiri is excited to address the complexities of sustainable finance and ensure that our actions become the foundation for a resilient and environmentally conscious financial landscape in the future,” Darmawan said.
