Bagas/Fikri finished second at the 2024 Swiss Open

Jakarta (MidLand) – The men’s doubles Bagas Maulana/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri must settle for returning home with status runner up Swiss Open 2024, Sunday.

Bagas/Fikri, seeded first, lost to eighth seed Ben Lane/Sean Vendy in the final round, in two consecutive matches, 22-24, 26-28 in 1 hour and 3 minutes.

The English pair controlled the game well in the first game. Although the battle for points at the start of the match was quite close, Lane/Vendy managed to maintain their lead and take the halftime lead to 11-7.

After the break, the British pair became more confident in taking home their first Super 300 title. This was demonstrated by the efforts of Bagas/Fikri who were able to anticipate well enough to take a 15-8 lead.

However, the Indonesian men’s doubles team did not lose hope and tried to make up ground at crucial moments.

Bagas/Fikri manages to hold back match points Lane/Vendy and won three points in a row to force devilbefore finally the British representatives achieved their first victory with a score of 24-22 over Bagas/Fikri.

The second match was tougher, with both pairs fighting for points. Bagas/Fikri also secured the second interval of play with a temporary score of 11-10.

After the break, the fight for numbers took place again fiercely, until finally the men’s doubles, ninth in the world rankings, temporarily managed to lead 16-14, 19-17, also winning match points first with a score of 20-18.

However, Bagas/Fikri did not make good use of this opportunity until their opponents tried again to finish the match. It happened at least seven times devil in the second game, and Lane/Vendy wrapped up the victory with a final score of 28-26.

This is a title runner up Sixth place for Bagas/Fikri since last year’s French Open. Previously in 2023, the 2022 All England Open champion took home silver medals at the Denmark Open, Thailand Open and Orleans Masters.

Meanwhile, there are still two more Indonesian representatives competing in the final stage of the BWF Super 300 Swiss Open tournament today.

There is the women’s doubles Lanny Tria Mayasari/Ribka Sugiarto who are still competing against the Taiwanese representatives Hsu Ya Ching/Lin Wan Ching. Besides that, there is women’s singles player Gregoria Mariska Tunjung who will meet Spanish top seed Carolina Marin in the showpiece match.
