Jakarta Athletics Team runner Odekta Elvina Naibaho said the key to her victory in winning gold in the women’s 10,000 meters at the 21st Aceh-North Sumatra National Sports Week (PON) 2024 was being friendly with natural conditions or warm weather.
He explained that from the very beginning of the race, what you have to compete against is yourself and you also have to be able to adapt to the existing weather conditions. place.
“The climate here is very hot, so the key is to be friendly with nature to be able to win,” Odekta said after receiving the gold medal at the North Sumatra Athletic Center stadium, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra, on Monday.
He further explained that a runner must be able to control himself so as not to run in a hurry.
“Because if you don’t do it, you might faint and undesirable things might happen,” said the 5,000m gold medalist at the PON XXI Aceh-North Sumatra 2024.
He added that long-distance runners need to have a strategy when they run, so they know when to push hard and wait for momentum.
“Yes, of course you have to have a strategy to compete. So you have to maximize your brain when you compete,” the 33-year-old said.
However, he added, gratitude for achieving the best results should still be remembered as the main thing, so one cannot be arrogant.
Regarding the regeneration of long-distance runners, the son of Marlin Naibaho and Manalu Nurcahaya said that the athlete’s growth has been quite good so far.

Odekta Elvina Naibaho, successfully collected gold in the women’s 5,000m and 10,000m, at the 21st Aceh-North Sumatra National Sports Week (PON) 2024, thus donating two medals to her region through athletics.
In the 10,000-meter race, he recorded a time of 36 minutes and 39.34 seconds in 25 laps.
Although he managed to win these two numbers, Odekta failed to beat the PON and the national record held by one person, namely Triyaningsih from Central Java (Central Java).
At PON XVIII Riau 2012, the athlete from Central Java recorded 34 minutes and 21.6 seconds, while the national record was set on December 17, 2009, with a time of 32 minutes and 49.47 seconds.
