Android 15 can track smartphones when the device is turned off
Badung Regency (MidLand) – On smartphones running the Android operating system, the “Find my phone” function as a tracking function is nothing new and is often used when users are looking for their cell phone.
However, this tracking function has a disadvantage, namely that it cannot be used if the cell phone is turned off.
Gizmochina’s report, Sunday (3/17), states that this issue could soon be resolved with Android 15.

It should be noted that through Android 15, Google is trying to overcome this problem by introducing Search off.
Discovered for the first time by Android Police, the application system essentially works by memorizing beacons Bluetooth which was previously calculated in the controller memory Bluetooth.
It looks cool but still suffers from the problem that special hardware is needed for the device to power the controller Bluetooth so it can work even when the phone is completely turned off.
Therefore, a backup battery may be required for this feature to work. The first rumors said that this feature could debut on the Pixel 9, but the latest is that this feature could also appear on the Pixel 8 if the operating system is updated to Android 15.
In addition to hardware requirements, significant software engineering efforts are also required to support HAL Bluetooth locator (Hardware abstraction layer).
Users should ensure they have updated to Android 15 and have the latest version of Google’s “Find My Device” system.
It is not yet known whether this feature will also be present on other mobile phone brands, but for Pixel mobile phones it is certain that this feature will not be present on older series such as Pixel 7 and Pixel 6.
It’s possible that this feature will be extended to some older devices in the future, especially recent high-end models like the Pixel Fold.
